Introduction

Custom Stone Backsplash Installation Service in East Tennessee

The backsplash is usually the last thing people decide and the first thing they look at every morning. There are two versions worth considering, and the difference between them is bigger than most quotes make clear.

A four inch splash continues your countertop up the wall as a short band, cut from offcut material. A full-height slab runs from the counter to the underside of your cabinets, with the veining carrying up so the two surfaces read as one, and almost no grout anywhere.

Granite Depot fabricates and installs both across Knoxville, Sevierville, Johnson City and the surrounding East Tennessee area, cut from the same slabs as your countertops in our own shop.

INSTALLATION PROCESS

Clean, Precise & Professional Workmanship

On a four inch splash, outlets sit above the stone and nobody thinks about them. On a full-height slab, every outlet is a rectangular hole cut through an otherwise uninterrupted surface, and it is the first thing your eye finds.

There are three ways to handle it. Cut them through the slab and place them deliberately, aligned with each other and where the veining is quietest. Relocate them to a strip under the upper cabinets so the face stays clean. Or move them into the cabinetry with in-drawer outlets. All three need your electrician involved before we fabricate, which is why we raise it at template rather than on the day.

Installation includes:

  • Outlet and switch openings cut to their final positions
  • Sections set tight to the countertop with no visible gap
  • Seams placed at cabinet lines or corners
  • Window returns and exposed edges finished
  • Natural stone sealed where the material calls for it
  • Site cleaned before we leave

Most kitchens are done in a single visit once the countertops are in. Contact us today to schedule your backsplash installation and let our team bring precision and lasting quality to your project.

A full-height run may need more stone than your countertop slab leaves over. Tell us while you are standing at it and we can reserve enough material. Work it out afterward and the slab may already be gone.

“Granite Depot is a phenomenal company! They go above and beyond to make sure the customer is happy, even if it means working in the snow because of our timeline. Frequently Asked Questions

What is a full-height backsplash?

Stone running from the countertop all the way to the underside of your upper cabinets, rather than a short four inch band. The veining can continue up from the counter so the two surfaces read as one, and there is almost no grout.

No. We fabricate and install stone, so everything we do is either a four inch splash or a full-height slab. If you have your heart set on tile, a tile setter is the right call and we will say so rather than quote you something we do not do.

Tile costs less per square foot and gives you far more colour and pattern options. Stone gives you a continuous surface with almost no grout, which matters most behind a range where grease and heat concentrate and grout darkens over time. If low maintenance is the priority, stone.

Considerably more than a four inch splash, because a four inch splash uses offcut while a full-height run needs substantial material and sometimes a second slab. The exact difference depends on your kitchen, and we quote it in writing.

Ideally yes. A full-height backsplash may need more material than your countertop slab leaves over, and if that slab has left the yard, matching it later is difficult. Tell us at slab selection even if you are not certain.

They either get cut through the slab, relocated to a strip under the upper cabinets, or moved into the cabinetry. All three need coordinating with your electrician before fabrication, so it is worth raising early.

No, but it usually should relate to them. Cutting from the same slab guarantees a match. Deliberately contrasting can work well, though it is a harder look to get right than people expect.

Yes, though matching existing countertops depends on what they are. Engineered quartz is often matchable if the pattern is still produced. Natural stone installed years ago may not be. Tell us what you have and we will be straight about the odds.

After the countertops. We template against the counters as actually installed, because measuring from a drawing leaves a visible gap at the bottom edge. Expect two visits if both are part of one project.

Reasonably, yes. Slab does not flex the way tile can, so a bowed wall or an out-of-plane plaster wall shows as a gap. We check at template and tell you if anything needs addressing first.

Natural stone does, on an interval that depends on the material. Engineered quartz does not. Behind a range, wiping grease off rather than letting it build up matters more than the sealing schedule.

Yes. A four inch splash and side splashes where the vanity top meets a wall are both standard, and full height behind a vanity is an option. That work is covered on our bathroom vanity tops page.
