Introduction

#1 Kitchen Countertop Installation and Replacement

You have probably been thinking about this for a while. The laminate has lifted at a seam, the tile grout has gone dark, or the granite that came with the house was never the colour you would have picked.

Then the quotes come back wildly different, using words nobody explains. Three centimetre. Eased edge. Undermount. Fifteen inch overhang.

Granite Depot fabricates and installs kitchen countertops for homeowners, builders and contractors across Knoxville, Sevierville, Johnson City and the surrounding East Tennessee area. We have been doing it in our own shop, and this page explains what those terms actually mean so you can compare quotes properly.

Our Process

Our Proven Countertop Process

02

Final Inspection

Before we consider the job complete, we perform a thorough quality inspection to ensure every detail meets our standards and your expectations.

KITCHEN

Pick the Slab, Not the Sample

With quartz a sample is reliable, because engineered material is consistent from one slab to the next. With natural stone it is not. Two granite slabs carrying the same name can look genuinely different, because they came out of different parts of the quarry.

That is why we keep stock on the floor rather than ordering from a catalogue. You see the actual slab your kitchen gets cut from, and on a large island we show you where the veining will land before anything is cut.

What we handle:

  • Slab selection from over 100 stocked in three showrooms
  • Layout and seam placement agreed with you before fabrication
  • Sink, cooktop and faucet hole cutouts cut to your actual fixtures
  • Edge profiles, from standard eased to mitered and waterfall
  • Backsplash coordination, four inch or full height

If a supplier will only show you a four inch sample of natural stone, that is worth asking about.

INSTALLATION & FINAL FINISH

What Installation Day Actually Looks Like

Most kitchens are a single day. Old tops come off, new tops go in, seams are closed and the stone is sealed where the material calls for it. You will not have a kitchen for a few hours, so plan around it.

The thing to know before booking is the sequence. Cabinets must be installed and level first, since stone follows the cabinets rather than correcting them. Your sink and cooktop need to be on site at template, because we cut to your actual fixtures rather than to a spec sheet. Plumbing reconnects after we leave, since adhesive and silicone need time to cure.

Installation includes:

  • Countertop installation and fitting

  • Sink and appliance integration

  • Seam alignment and finishing

  • Final inspection and quality check

  • Clean and professional project completion

“Granite Depot is a phenomenal company! They go above and beyond to make sure the customer is happy, even if it means working in the snow because of our timeline. Rachel was our contact and she was extremely pleasant, meticulous and really stayed on top of the entire process. The installers did a fantastic job and sent pictures of their work afterward. Frequently Asked Questions

How long does kitchen countertop installation take?

Most projects template within 48 hours of slab selection and install seven to ten days later. Installation day itself is usually a single day for a typical kitchen.

Granite is natural, heat resistant, and every slab is unique, but it needs periodic sealing. Quartz is engineered, non-porous, never needs sealing, and is consistent slab to slab, but it’s less heat tolerant. If you want individuality, granite. If you want predictability and low maintenance, quartz.

It helps, particularly for decisions about seam placement, faucet hole layout and how veining lands on an island. Your sink and cooktop do need to be on site.

Any kitchen larger than a slab will. What matters is placement. We plan seams over supported points rather than across unsupported gaps, and we show you where they’ll fall before fabrication.

Three centimetre is the standard for kitchens here and stands alone without extra support. Two centimetre is thinner and usually needs a substrate or a laminated edge. If two quotes differ noticeably, check whether they’re quoting the same thickness.

Generally around ten to twelve inches depending on material and thickness. Past that you need corbels or steel brackets, and that has to be planned before installation rather than added afterward.

Yes. What’s involved depends on whether you’re coming off laminate, tile or existing stone, and it’s factored into the quote.

Sink and faucet reconnection happens after installation, since adhesive and silicone need time to cure. Tell us your situation when you book and we’ll make sure the sequencing is clear.

Usually, if it’s in good condition and fits the new layout. It needs to be on site at template either way, since we cut to the actual sink rather than to published dimensions.

Natural stone yes, on an interval that depends on the specific material. Engineered quartz does not require sealing. We tell you what applies to what you chose.

It depends on material, square footage, slab yield, edge profile, cutouts and backsplash choice. Bring or send your kitchen plan and we’ll quote within two hours during business hours. Estimates are free and we price match comparable quotes.
