“I had Granite Depot install new stone countertops and backsplash in my kitchen. Becca was wonderful through the process – the crew was efficient and completed the project in two working days – less than a week total. The countertops beautiful and everyone who visits loves to explore the crystalline structure of the stone.”

“Granite Depot is a phenomenal company! They go above and beyond to make sure the customer is happy, even if it means working in the snow because of our timeline. Rachel was our contact and she was extremely pleasant, meticulous and really stayed on top of the entire process. The installers did a fantastic job and sent pictures of their work afterward. I highly recommend Granite Depot.”

Stone that lasts a lifetime — installed in days, not weeks
Frequently Asked Questions
What is dolomite?
A natural stone composed largely of calcium magnesium carbonate, often called dolomitic marble. The magnesium makes it harder and more scratch resistant than pure calcite marble, while looking very similar.
Does dolomite etch?
Yes, though more slowly and less dramatically than marble. It’s a carbonate, so acid reacts with it. Wipe spills promptly, keep acidic prep on a board, and choose a honed finish if the kitchen sees real use.
Is dolomite harder than marble?
Yes. The magnesium content makes it denser and more scratch resistant. It’s a meaningful improvement over marble, though not in the same league as quartzite or granite.
Does dolomite need sealing?
Yes, and generally more often than granite. It’s porous. We seal after installation and tell you the interval for your specific stone.
Is dolomite the same as quartzite?
No, and this confusion is common. A lot of stone sold as quartzite is actually dolomite. True quartzite is silica based and does not etch. Dolomite is carbonate based and does. Ask what a slab actually is before you buy.
What is Super White, really?
It has been sold as quartzite, marble and dolomite over the years and the debate continues. Many slabs sold under that name are dolomitic. It’s the clearest illustration of why trade names are worth questioning.
Is Fantasy Brown quartzite or dolomite?
Frequently dolomite, despite often being catalogued as quartzite or marble. Behaviour follows composition rather than the label, so it’s worth confirming with whoever is selling it.
Should I choose honed or polished dolomite?
Honed for kitchens. Any etching that does occur largely disappears into an already matte surface. Polished suits bathroom vanities and lower-traffic areas where acid exposure is minimal.
Is dolomite good for a busy kitchen?
For moderate use, yes. If you cook hot and acidic every day and want a surface that needs no thought at all, quartzite or granite are better suited.
Can dolomite be used outdoors?
We don’t recommend it here. Carbonate stone and repeated freezing and thawing are a poor combination in East Tennessee.
How much does dolomite cost?
Generally above entry-level granite and below premium quartzite. That middle position is the main reason people choose it.
Which is right for me, marble, dolomite or quartzite?
Marble if you love the material and accept it will change. Dolomite if you want the look with more margin for error. Quartzite if you cook seriously and want the look without the chemistry. We’ll walk you through all three with the actual slabs in front of you.
